Stewball by Peter Paul and Mary is a great song.
It was remade by Joan Baez, too, as a tribute to Ruffian after she died. That is a great version too, although Joan sings of a grey mare, and Ruffian was dark bay. And Ruffian didn’t die on the track, like the song says,… so some of the details are off, but the song is great anyway.

"Stewball" is one of my old favorites too- I grew up listening to it and to other songs by Peter, Paul,& Mary, and my father actually knew Peter Yarrow when he was doing a teaching fellowship at Cornell University in New York. Other favorite horse songs of mine include "Run for the Roses" by Dan Fogelburg, and "Eagles and Horses" by John Denver. I also like "Pony Man", which is sung by Gordon Lightfoot, and "Ponies" ( I don’t know the composer of that last one, I only have heard one recording of it.)
